Things to do in Mozirje: a guest's guide to our corner of the Savinja Valley
Mozirje is a small, friendly market town in the Upper Savinja Valley, with green hills around it, the Savinja river running past and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps not far up the valley. From Creekside House K at Ob Savinji 1, most of what makes this area special is a short walk or an easy drive away. Here is what we recommend to our guests.
Wander through Mozirski gaj
Mozirski gaj is the flower park Mozirje is known for, and one of the loveliest gardens in Slovenia. It covers around seven hectares on the bank of the Savinja and combines themed flower gardens, ponds and an open-air ethnographic museum with old farm buildings from the valley. The main season usually runs from mid-April to mid-October, with spring bulbs early on and summer and autumn displays later. In winter the park is often lit up with Christmas lights. Opening times and events change from year to year, so check the park's current programme before you go.

The park is close to the house, so you can easily spend a slow morning there and be back for lunch on the terrace by the creek.
Walk by the Savinja and along the creek
You do not need a plan to enjoy Mozirje. Step outside the house and you are by the water. Gentle paths follow the Savinja and the smaller streams around town, and they are perfect for an early morning stroll, an evening walk after dinner or a short run. The river is clear and lively, and in summer you will see people cooling their feet at the gravel banks. Please take care near the water, as the current can be stronger than it looks, especially after rain.
From the town centre, small roads and footpaths climb into the surrounding hills, with farms, orchards and wide views back over the valley.
Go up to Golte
Golte is the mountain plateau above Mozirje, at around 1,400 metres. In winter it is a small, family-friendly ski area. From late spring to autumn it becomes a place for hiking, themed trails, mountain meadows and its alpine garden, with views towards the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. You can reach it by road. A cable car from the valley has also served Golte, but its operation has changed over the years, so check the current situation before you plan around it. Bring a warm layer even in summer, because it is noticeably cooler up there.
Take a day trip to Logar Valley
Logar Valley (Logarska dolina) is one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in the Alps, and it is an easy drive further up the Savinja Valley. Walk or cycle along the valley floor, stop at a tourist farm for lunch and finish at the Rinka waterfall below the high peaks. If you have a full day, combine it with the Solčava panoramic road. We cover this in more detail in our guide to the best day trips from Creekside House K.

Try the local food
The Upper Savinja Valley has a strong farming tradition, and food here is hearty and honest. Look out for:
- Zgornjesavinjski želodec, the valley's traditional dry-cured meat speciality, usually sliced thin with bread.
- Tourist farms (turistične kmetije) in the hills, which serve home-made dishes, soups, štruklji and seasonal desserts.
- Local honey, cheese, juices and spirits, often sold directly at farms and at local markets.

The kitchen at House K is fully equipped, so many guests like to pick up local produce during the day and cook a relaxed dinner with the sound of the creek outside.
Rent a bike or e-bike in Mozirje
The easiest way to explore the valley by bike is to rent one at the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) Mozirje. They rent out electric bikes and regular mountain bikes for all ages, and families are well catered for, with a children’s bike and two child seats for younger kids.
- E-bikes: €10 for 1 hour, €20 for 3 hours, €35 for 24 hours.
- Regular (mountain) bikes and the children’s bike: €5 for 1 hour, €10 for 3 hours, €20 for 24 hours.
- Child seat: €5, a fixed price however long you rent.
TIC Mozirje is at Hofbauerjeva 28, 3330 Mozirje. Phone +386 70 799 099 or email tic@mozirje.si. The office is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:00 and closed at weekends, so plan weekend rides around those hours and ask TIC in advance if you need bikes for Saturday or Sunday. An e-bike makes the gentle climb up the valley towards Ljubno, Luče and Logar Valley much easier. TIC also has maps of walking, hiking and cycling trails.
Prices and rental details are from Visit Mozirje (November 2026) and may change, so check with TIC before you go.
